Superior SEAL of approval
seal-main

It’s one of Australia’s most popular tourist spots and SEAWORLD have now added Superior to its newest attraction SEAL Harbour.

The SEAWORLD exhibit is a popular place for visitors to learn about the cute and cuddly New Zealand Fur Seals, the golden maned Australian Sea Lions and the sleek Californian Sea Lions.

The new enclosure now features Superior pontoons for trainers to access the seal population from haul out decks used to step off onto the low level platforms.

The Capri pontoons for the exhibit were designed in house by Superior.

In the breeding area housing Sea World’s seal population, you can rightly say Superior now really do have the official seal of approval!

A Quarter of a Century of Innovation

superior-25-year-group-photo

At the Sanctuary Cove International Boatshow this coming May, Superior will be celebrating 25 years in the business.

We were presented a trophy by the organisers at the 21st show as one of the originals that has attended every show.  This makes a tradition and a history of reliability for solid useful products on the water.

There have been many firsts over the years brought about through innovation yet we prefer to think of these often as a response to the communication with customers to meet the changing needs of the marketplace.

The large floating stand on the water at SCIBS is an opportunity for customers to actually walk on the products and use them.

It is also a great time for us to see old friends and catch up on the latest information.

As Matt Browning in our sales team said last year during SCIBS: “It doesn’t feel like work when I would be here anyway even if I wasn’t working”.

Our team love being around the water, we have come to know it well and this allows us to interact with our stakeholders with experience, knowledge and empathy.

Come and see us this year, drop in for a chat and let us know your ideas for the next great floating product.

Boyne Tannum Hook Up rescue mission

Superior has committed to making this year’s Boyne Tannum Hook Up a success after doubts the popular community fishing competition could go ahead

Up to 25,000 visitors attend the weekend event and many use the local boat ramp to launch their boats.

The boat ramp pontoon was destroyed in the recent wild Queensland floods with the user facilities at Bray Park critical to the success of the competition.

Superior are working in partnership with Gladstone Regional Council to reinstate the pontoon system in time for the early May event.

Sunstream Boatlifts

Demand for the world’s best performing boat lift the Sunstream Float Lift has been exceptional and Superior have a new shipment set to arrive direct from the US.

Since displaying the lift at last year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, Superior’s partnership with Sunstream Boat Lifts has proved successful with Australian boaties recognising the advantages of the hi-tech lifts.

Sunstream’s boatlifts cater for vessels up to 10.8T. The units are built using high-quality marine-grade aluminium, stainless steel and rotomolded polyethylene, supported by 240v and solar charging options.

Sunstream’s V-Lift is a free-floating, can operate in as little as 1m of water and in berths from 3m wide. Designed to be extremely fast, it can launch boats in as little as 75 seconds, lifting them again in 2 minutes. Power is delivered through a low-draw DC system and options include solar and AC charging. With no hard-mounts required, the Sunstream V-Lift is entirely portable and can be used almost anywhere a boat can be moored whether marina berth, private pontoon or swing mooring.

Sunstream’s Float Lift is the world’s leading hydraulic, free-floating boatlift. With the fastest launch and recovery speeds (launch 18 seconds, typical recovery 30 seconds) and a three-year hydraulic warranty, the Float Lift can be tied alongside a pontoon or kept on a swing mooring. With its high-speed hydraulics, unsinkable floats, remote control and solar charging, customers receive a serious return on their investment through reduced wear on the hull and overall reduction in hull maintenance.

Superior will also be exhibiting at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May and will have a 2.7T Float Lift on the water for demonstrations.

Steel Away

pump-pontoon-main

For 25 years Superior has manufactured the products people have grown to know and trust. An essential component is the high quality marine grade aluminium we are lucky to have in Australia. Aluminium is strong at 250MPa tensile strength yet ductile in application.

The great benefit is it does not rust in the marine environment.  Superior has always specialised in aluminum fabrication with MIG and TIG welding processes along with CNC machining.

Steel fabrication was always avoided or outsourced due to the risk of contamination.  This fact meant that we have designed in aluminum almost exclusively until recent times.

With the advent of SuperiorWORK the industrial flotation division, many of the jobs need to be manufactured in steel for the increased strength and impact applications.

Aluminium would be work hardened and fail on a pump pontoon often placed with earthmoving dozers.  The demand for steel has meant that we are able to use a separate factory for this work and with the advent of special paints from International Paints we are also able to address corrosion with tough new coatings.

This highly precise work is managed through Project Delivery Pans (PDP), Inspection and Testing Pans (ITP) and other quality assurance protocols to ensure a special delivery suitable for the acronym rich ENR (Energy and Natural Resource) sector.

It is not an easy task to make these changes to qualify as a supplier to this industry.  However the Superior team has really addressed the challenge and their commitment to following a plan and ensuring a quality product has allowed us to supply important projects such as WICET at the Port of Gladstone for Monodelphous Muhibbah JV, BMA, Rio Tinto and others.

New product update

Sign of innovation
fire-hose-reel-main

Superior’s new fire hose reel cover out of our SuperiorWORK division has been a hit with marina managers and factory managers.

Fire safety devices are much more prevalent these days and the most visible item is the fire hose reel. These are installed less than 40 metres apart on most marinas and they serve an important early response purpose. Over the years when these devices are subjected to the punishing elements of the sun, rain and wind.

In response to the damage caused by the elements there has been an effort to make some covers from PVC fabric which itself is subject to UV damage. Therefore Superior has produced an answer, The Superior Hose Reel Cover. (HRC).

This innovative product is manufactured from tough durable polyethylene which is the same material used for impact resistant road barriers where they have to endure years of service out in the elements.

The product will be launched at the upcoming Marine13 show in Sydney on April 28, 2013. Enquiries from non marine distributors are welcome as we believe this is a must have accessory for long term protection of this vital infrastructure component to fire safety.

Fire Hose Reel Thing

Superior has been building marinas for many years and the levels of safety have been improving as well. The fire safety devices are much more prevalent these days and the most visible item is the fire hose reel.
