Superior Jetties and VMR Southport team up to help boaties.

On Saturday March 8 Gold Coast based manufacturer of world class domestic and commercial berthing systems, Superior Jetties, is teaming up with Volunteer Marine Rescue Southport, and other local marine organizations, to help educate boaties on safe berthing and general boating safety.

The Volunteer Marine Rescue base at The Spit will be open to the general public, where highly trained VMR Officers will assist people with safe berthing techniques, radio operation, wash responsibility and general marine etiquette.

John Hogan, Managing Director of Superior Jetties, said the idea behind the initiative is in response to the recent debate in regards to the speed limits on our waterways, and to be proactive in educating boaties about how to berth their boat safely and in general marine etiquette.

“Our business is all about providing high quality berthing systems for boat owners, so it makes sense that we help the invaluable local safety organizations such as VMR Southport, to help train boaties in how to berth their boat safely, and how to operate their boat when they’re out on the water”, said Mr Hogan. “We’re committed to putting something back into the local market that has helped us build our business, and teaming up with VMR Southport to promote safe boating is a great way to do that”, Mr Hogan went on to say.

Peter Cartwright, President of VMR Southport, said it’s great to see local marine companies like Superior Jetties investing in such a very important cause. A large number of recreational boaties have a limited understanding of local waterway rules and regulations, so an event like this is a great opportunity to help educate boaties on general safety and many unknown rules and regulations, said Mr Cartwright.

Understanding how to manage the berthing of your boat is paramount to ensure a happy departure and safe return from your boating activities. Trained VMR Officers will be available on the day to help guide people in how to berth their own boat, or VMR boats will be available for demonstrations.

The event will also include displays from Superior Jetties and a range of new boats from Satisfaction Marine. A number of other marine related representatives will be present on the day, offering advice and information on such things as how to attain your boat or jet ski license. Food and refreshments will be available on the day, with plenty of parking, or feel free to bring your own boat along.

When: Saturday the 8th of March from 9.30am
Where: VMR Headquarters, Muriel Henchman Drive, The Spit, Southport.
